ENZYMATIC BEAMHOUSE: A BIODERMOL-CALIBRATED REALITY
The workshop "The Circularity of Italian leather – sustainability at 360 °", held Thursday, February 21, at the exhibition Lineapelle Milano, has brought environmental and social sustainability applied to the tanning sector under the spotlights again.
Especially, the intervention of Dr. Gustavo DeFeo, for years engaged in the research for new green solutions in the tanning process, highlighted the strategic importance of the use of enzymatic technology as an environmentally friendly alternative. More precisely, enzymes are proteins naturally present in each living organism, able to catalyze, or accelerate, the course of a spontaneous reaction lowering its activation energy. Based on the three-dimensional structure and biochemical properties peculiar to each enzyme, they are able to act selectively catalyzing specific reactions without generating polluting reaction by-products.
Biodermol Ambiente, thanks to the White Line® product line, provides the possibility to apply the enzymatic technology in the beamhouse phases and therefore offers a concrete alternative to the excessive use of chemicals.
The process of working with the White Line® line, realized in collaboration with universities and research centres, is applied to today in many Italian and foreign tanneries with a proven efficacy both in achieving the quality standards of the final product and in the abatement of polluting loads. Thanks to the sharp decrease in the use of chemicals and the specific action of enzymes, White Line® also allows to implement an effective process of recovery of the hair, generating keratinic derivatives to be used in other sectors and obtaining a net Reduction of COD and TKN values in wastewater of the liming process.
