our partnership with Research Institutes and Universities
is essential for supporting the company's
research, giving it scientific validity.
University of Trento
The BIOENZIME project was developed in partnership with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Trento.
The purpose of the project was to develop a biological wastewater treatment process resulting from the slurry-phase treatment of contaminated soils.
The trial was conducted at the civil water treatment plant in Mori (TN), using the “white” technique.
University of Verona
In partnership with the University of Verona, Biodermol conducted a project on the isolation of microorganisms (bacteria and mould) from the contaminated matrix and the selection of strains that showed degradative abilities towards compounds of interest.
CRPA
CRPA (Centro ricerche produzioni animali [Animal Production Research Centre]) in Reggio Emilia: A project to assess the effectiveness of enzymatic products during the anaerobic digestion process, using biomethanation BMP tests.
Patents
European Patent for remediation EPO EP2138245
In 2012, we obtained European patent EPO EP2138245 for the remediation of soil contaminated by hydrocarbons.

The patent combined process of washing and selecting soil contaminated by hydrocarbons and slurry-phase bioremediation of the washed 0 - 4 mm washed fraction.

For the first time in Europe, we completed an Ex Situ on-site remediation of a fuel depot in Trento, where up to 500,000 litres of fuel had been stored for over 40 years.

The cost of the work amounted to €750,000 and the remediation was carried out using the proprietary CLARA process, the EVO product and a mobile treatment plant.
European Patent for remediation
Our revolutionary biodegradation procedure, i.e., the structural conversion of organic compounds carried out by microorganisms, involves:
  • Primary biodegradation with formation of other, smaller, organic compounds
  • Total biodegradation (or mineralisation) with conversion of the contaminant into CO2, H2O, NH3, PO4=, SO4=.
The most commonly observed forms of metabolism are:
  • Catabolism with formation of smaller molecules
  • Co-metabolism with conversion of a contaminant by microorganisms that do not use the contaminant as a source of energy.
